Sopapillas
Zac is at it again!!!!! I’m so glad he likes to make new recipes and then I get to share them with you. These little gems are great for any occasion and can be stuffed with delicious meat or simply served with honey and butter.
We filled ours with slow cooking Carne Asada, this recipe for this beef is simply divine. It is so juicy and tender that it compliments Sopapillas perfectly.
They are light and fluffy and easy to make, once you know the tricks of the trade. That’s what we are here for!!
Sopapillas Ingredients:
4 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
4 Tablespoons shortening
1 1/2 cups warm water
2 quarts oil for frying
Sopapillas
Directions:
- In a large bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, salt and shortening. Stir in water; mix until dough is smooth. Cover and let stand for 20 minutes.
- Roll out on floured board until 1/8 inch thick or even a little thinner. Cut into 3 inch squares. Heat oil in deep fryer to 325 to 350 degrees. Fry until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels and serve hot.
Note: The thickness of your squares makes a huge difference. We found they will puff up better when its thinner. Also, if the oil is not hot enough or too hot this will make a difference.
This how they will look if they are cooked at the right temperature.
So yummy served with butter and honey!!!
Oh yum! I love sopapillas.. and honey.. and butter… These looks great and have my mouth watering! 😉
