It’s official! our 2023 bingo party is in the books! What did you eat? You ask…… not the traditional menu that you would expect.

As usual, we couldn’t have the traditional food that most families have for Christmas parties! lol!  No, turkey, or ham. Don’t get me wrong, I love that my kids want to explore new recipes, and flavors. It certainly has taken me out of my comfort zone…….which I think is good!

Our theme was southern cooking!!! I’m pretty sure this menu will show up again! We had chicken and waffles, my Zac, made gumbo, and Jessica made apple and peach turnovers. Cassie made a delicious coleslaw and gravy for the chicken!  I wasn’t sure that we had anyone bringing dessert so I did some research and look what I found!

You guys! This is so good!!!!!

You can garnish with fresh berries and cream or a little drizzle of caramel or chocolate would be divine!

Ingredients

  • 1 9″ pastry crust ( I used a frozen Marie Callender's deep dish)
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 Tbsp flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tsps vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
  2. In a large bowl, add sugar and flour, and whisk to combine.
  3. Add the eggs, and whisk to combine.
  4. Add the butter, buttermilk, vanilla, and pinch of salt, lemon juice and whisk to combine. The batter will look a little curdled.
  5. Pour the buttermilk mixture into the unbaked prepared pie crust, and bake for 45 to 50 minutes.
  6. The center will be set when the pie is done.
  7. Remove from the oven, and let cool for at least 2 hours before serving.
