When I’m having a rough mom moment it’s easy to forget all the good things about being a mom. These are my go-to’s for mom pick-me-ups that remind me why I love being a mom and help me truly appreciate the gift of motherhood!
3 Must Read Writings About Motherhood
1. Children – by Neil L. Andersen: This was a talk given at LDS General Conference back in 2011. In it, Brother Andersen quotes a mother who says, “Motherhood is not a hobby, it is a calling. You do not collect children because you find them cuter than stamps. It is not something to do if you can squeeze the time in. It is what God gave you time for.”
2. Coffee + Crumbs: Coffee + Crumbs is a collection of stories about motherhood, love, truth, and the good kind of heartache. Basically, it is amazing. Sometimes when I need a mommy sanity break I tell my husband I’m going to take a nap, but really I just go lay on my bed and read Coffee + Crumbs until all the good kind of crying makes me feel sane again. (yeah… that’s why I tell him I’m taking a nap.)
3. Heaven Is Here – by Stephanie Neilson: If you want to read about an amazing mother, Stephanie is definitely your girl. She was severely burned in a near-fatal plane crash and yet through her recovery comes to embrace, more than ever before, the power of love, motherhood, community, faith, and the simple joys of everyday life. I read this throughout my pregnancy, and since the pregnancy was the toughest I’d ever been through, I was amazed that her greatest desire once she recovered from her burns was to have another baby. She has such an amazing perspective on what it means to be a mom and is just an amazing person in general.
I would love to hear any suggestions you have for me to read!
