5 Essential Beauty Tips From a Professional Makeup Artist
Today my friend Amy is going to give you some awesome makeup tips! But first, I want to tell you a little about her! Amy and I met while competing for the Miss Utah competition almost 12 years ago, and we’ve been friends ever since. Isn’t she gorgeous?!
Amy has been fascinated with the beauty industry for as long as she can remember. in 2003, her collegiate courses at USU Eastern included a Makeup for Stage class and since then, she has been hooked on what makeup has the power to create.
Amy has worked extensively in the beauty industry, with a strong presence in the pageant community, working with Miss Utah & Miss Utah’s Outstanding Teen Organizations. She has styled and dressed countless photo shoots for various ads, promos and contestant head shots.
After much contemplation, Amy decided to extend her skills and learn more about professional makeup application and ‘went back to school’ at Mandalyn Academy where she was under the instruction of Tara Starling, an industry professional.
While at Mandalyn, she earned her official certification with special emphasis on beauty, bridal, special effects and natural makeup styling. Her highest hopes in this field, are to one day be on sets in the movie and film industry. For now, while raising her children, she loves meeting new clients and helping women across the state, be proactive in finding their own beauty.
She speaks to groups across Utah about the importance of keeping a level perspective on the “standard of beauty” and why nobody really wants (or should want) to fit into it. Beauty is unique and personal and her greatest joy is helping those she meets, to understand that principle. She’s awesome, and she knows her stuff!
5 Essential Beauty Tips From a Professional Makeup Artist
1. Mascara is a must! It opens the eye, helps you appear more awake and “put together” even when you don’t think you are.
2: Simple pats of blush from a big fluffy brush will instantly help you liven your face. It also accentuates your smile!
3: A sleek pony tail is my “go to” when I’m in a hurry. Pulling all of the hair back to an middle to upper height, will give the face structure and looks classy. Lower, messy pony tails are great…but if you really want to add an element of glamour to the mundane, bring the height up and sleek the hair back.
4: Moisturizer is amazing! Find your favorite brand and use it as often as you can. Hydrated, soft skin is vital when you’re applying makeup. You will appear more youthful and refreshed too!
5. Being kind is the most beautiful thing a person be! Your soul will be beautiful and it will shine outward! No amount of product or technique can change a bitter person. Start with being kind and beauty will become part of you! Here is a sample of Amy’s work! She did our makeup for a recent photo shoot!
Great tips, I think that the mascara is the must too! Never go out without applying it.

great tips! I recently started moisturizing more.. 🙂
Dry skin is terrible, it flakes and traps oil; which causes acne.I love a good moisturizer.
