Korean Hot Dog
Who says Korean flavors and hot dogs don’t go together! A flavor packed delight packed into one bun!
My husband served a 2 year mission for our church in Korea! He loved the food and the people. So when we get the chance to explore a new food experience in the Korea inspired recipes, we are pretty excited.
If your not familiar Korean food, from my point of view is that it’s a little spicy with fresh ingredients. You can decide how spicy you want or not. It seems like Korean food has taken over! At least in Utah!
I’m seriously in love with this slaw that is in this recipe!
Korean Hot Dog
Ingredients
- HOT DOGS:
- 8 all-beef hot dogs
- 8 top sliced buns
- 16 ounces of your favorite store-bought Kimchi
- SLAW:
- 1 bag of fresh coleslaw
- 1 small red onion, sliced
- 1 jalapeno, sliced (remove the seeds)
- ½ cup rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Gochujang
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon hot mustard
- ⅓ cup olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt and pepper
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- KETCHUP:
- 1 cup ketchup
- 3 tablespoons gochujang
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon minced ginger
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the rice vinegar, gochujang, brown sugar, hot mustard, olive oil, salt, pepper, and sesame oil. Toss into the sauce the coleslaw, red onion, jalapeno.
- For the ketchup, combine ketchup, gochujang, soy sauce, and minced ginger.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, gochujang, and mustard.
- Heat your grill over medium flame. Score each hot dog 3-4 times on both sides. Add the hot dogs to the grill and cook, turning every couple of minutes, until charred to your liking on all sides.
- If desired, toast hot dog buns, butter the bun and place it on broil until golden brown. Watch closely.
- Place 1-2 ounces of kimchi in each bun, then the hot dog, then top with Slaw. Drizzle the dogs with Ketchup and hot mustard, and serve warm.
