Reeses Puffs Treats

Reeses Puffs treats are a fun spin on the original marshmallow cereal treat.

We needed a treat yesterday and thought this would the perfect simple treat. Grey and Matt eat cereal almost every morning and love it. Since we love Reese’s at this house we went for it. And stole some Reese’s peanut butter cups from our Halloween candy bag and whipped up this browned butter goodness.

Ingredients 

• 6 tablespoons salted butter
• 10 oz. mini marshmallows 
• 6 cups Reese’s Puffs cereal 
• 5 regular Reese’s peanut butter cups

Directions

1. Grease an extra large mixing bowl, a 9-inch non-stick square baking pan, and a silicone spatula or wooden spoon with butter or baking spray. Set aside.
2. Cut the 6 tablespoons of salted butter into slices and place them in a medium-large saucepan.
3. Set the pan over LOW heat and allow the butter to begin melting, then stir constantly until the butter starts to brown and have a nutty smell.
4. Add the marshmallows, and stir occasionally until 75% of the marshmallows have melted.
5. Remove the pan from the heat, and stir the marshmallows until completely melted. This will ensure your marshmallows don’t get too hot which causes hard treats.
6. Pour the cereal into the greased mixing bowl.
7. Pour the melted marshmallows over the cereal.
8. Toss until the marshmallow evenly coats all the cereal. 
9. Spread into an even layer in the greased baking pan.
10. Chop the Reese’s Cups into small pieces and sprinkle them over the top of the treats. Gently press them into the treats to ensure they stick. Don’t smash them too much.
11. Let the treats cool at room temperature for at least 45 minutes.
12. Remove the treats from the pan and cut into 9 rectangle treats or 12 square bars.
