DIY GIGANTIC Picture Frame for $25!

My baby is 11-months-old and her walls were still pretty boring, so we made this DIY GIGANTIC picture frame for less than $25! I can’t wait to show you how easy it is to make!

A few months ago I made a GIGANTIC chalkboard for my kitchen. I’ve absolutely LOVED having it in my house and I get a ton of compliments on it. It’s fun and flirty with curved edges, and I knew I wanted to make something similar to hold the new artwork I got in it! (I’ll show you that tomorrow!)

This frame is pretty big, it’s just the right size for a print that’s 30″ x 40″, but you could definitely adjust this to fit whatever project you have in mind.

Here’s what you’ll need for this DIY GIGANTIC picture frame!

• 1″ x 6″ pine board
• wood filler
• staples
• paper
• pencil
• tape
• staple gun
• jigsaw
• router (optional)
• spray paint or stain of your choice

1. Start by measuring the picture you want to frame, you want the frame opening to be a little smaller than your artwork unless you’re using a frame mat. We weren’t so we made our frame 1/2 ” smaller than the artwork.
2. Using a miter saw, cut the length and width of your board to the length you need, then cut a 45-degree angle on each board.
3. Using a stapler, staple the corners together, making a rectangle or square (whatever you need for your project.)
4. Use some wood filler to fill in any cracks that aren’t flush.
5. Allow the wood filler to dry. Sand it down to make it smooth.
6. Decide what design you want the outside of your frame to be. We free-handed some swirls on paper, taped them together, cut them out, and then used it as a template to trace it onto the frame. Just find the center point of the frame and flip the template to make sure both sides are the same.
7. Use a jigsaw to cut out the design of your choice.
8. Use a router to make the edges look finished, if you don’t have one the frame will still look awesome!
9. Spray paint or stain your DIY GIGANTIC picture frame!
10. You can have custom glass cut for your project, but that can be pretty pricey so we opted to leave the glass out. We’ll use cardboard to mount the picture to the back of the frame and then we’ll staple that on.

We used Rust-Oleum’s Matte Robin’s Egg Universal Advanced Formula to paint this project.
