Edible Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
Edible Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough! I can’t tell you how many times a week that we run to the grocery store to pick up a tube of cookie dough for my 14-year-old daughter. Every time we do it, my husband asks me if it’s safe for her to eat it raw and quite honestly, I don’t know, but we continue to do it.
I thought our family was crazy when all we wanted to do is eat the cookie dough and not cook the cookies because that has always been the best part of making cookies! Licking the spoon and taking your finger and getting the last morsel out of the bowl and thinking that we are such a rebel and living on the wild side.
Then the cookie dough craze began all over the country and I realized that it wasn’t just our crazy little family that the whole country felt the same way!
The closet edible cookie dough shop is several miles away from my house. Since that’s not an option and we won’t be jumping in our car to go to Salt Lake each night, we needed to come up with a solution other than running to the store for a tube! We all know the homemade is better than store-bought dough.
The best thing is that you can make it to order, go a little crazy and add a few sprinkles! Goodness, you could even serve it in a cone and everybody’s mind will be blown!
- 1/2 cup butter softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup flour
- 1/4 cup oats
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup sprinkles- optional
- Mix butter and sugars with an electric mixer until well combined.
- Add vanilla, mix until well combined. Add in baking soda, salt, flour, oats, chocolate chips and sprinkles, stirring until well combined.
- Store covered in refrigerator.
- Remember, there is always risk with any food, including cookie dough. Make and eat raw cookie dough at YOUR own risk. I am not telling you that it is safe.

When I was little I used to go in the kitchen when my grandma would make cookies and always get my fingers in the dough. She would always tell me off, saying it’s not good to eat raw. So I understand the struggle! 🙂 It’s great that you’ve made a recipe that it is actually safe to eat raw! 🙂
I’ve never thought of eating cookie dough but actually it doesn’t sound all bad!! I like that you’ve come up with your own way of making it, I am sure you are right – home made is always best! About it being safe to eat, I can’t really see why not.. if there were eggs involved I don’t think that would be ok!!
Right seriously you had me at the words cookie dough!! Then the pictures have just made me seriously feel the craving 🙂 x
Oh my gosh! Love this. My husband loves cookie dough too. He doesn’t eat it much raw though. Definitely going to keep this homemade recipe.
I love this recipe, its easy and who doesn’t like easy and chocolate.
Sounds tasty! I’m vegan but this is totally doable with just a switch of the butter (Earth Balance would work) and using vegan chocolate chips. Super cool!

This sounds so delicious and is great for this time of year. Thanks for sharing.
Sounds amazing! This recipe doesn’t contain eggs, which presents most of the risk for raw cookie dough. Everything else is safe to eat raw! My husband would love this, he’s always sneaking raw cookie dough.
The family is not crazy, this is genius! Who doesn’t like sneaking some cookie dough? Going to make a big batch of this for an upcoming party with friends, I know it will be a hit!
i never get to the end of cookie making always end up eating the dough…will try this recipe too!
Looove cookie dough- I am the same way! Rather eat the dough than the cookie… same with brownie batter lol. Honestly, the unsafe part is the egg. As long as it is fresh when you use it, and the dough doesn’t sit forever before you eat it it should be fine. Obviously refrigerate it… but cold cookie dough is better than warm imo. Plus there is enough sugar in it that it will act as a preservative.
I have never tried this kind of cookie, it looks so delicious and i think i may try it soon haha.
I also love edible cookie dough! It’s so good. It’s perhaps my favorite park about baking cookies!
Edible chocolate chip cookie dough looks delicious. Thank you for the lovely recipe.
OMG my kids would love this. They love to eat cookie dough and this is exactly what they would love to eat.
Sounds good minus the oats. But I have been eating raw cookie dough since I was a little girl. The eggs are pasteurized which kills the bacteria so as long as you don’t let it sit.
