Healing from a C-Section

It’s been a while but I’m back. I had my baby and now we are just adjusting to life with three children. With that comes a lot of new learning and growing. We’ve had some growing pains with the boys, they love their sister but are trying to get used to not having as much attention.

Sawyer wants to snuggle every chance he gets, and by snuggle it means he wants to sit on my lap but I can’t wrap my arms around him. It’s actually hilarious how much Sawyer’s personality has come out since mom and dad have been home! It’s really hard to let your body heal after a C-section when you have two older kids who just want to be with you all the time! Here are some tips of ways to still give your older kids attention and allow them to feel loved!

First thing you need to do is to focus on your healing! Sleep when you’re tired, don’t forget to take your medicine and follow the doctors orders. Which I know can be hard sometimes. They say move, but don’t move too much, they say sleep but make sure your standing up and moving around some. Basically, I say follow what the doctors say and listen to your body. Luckily for me my husband is on paternity leave so I would nap in the middle of the day. If you don’t have that then don’t be afraid to ask for help. The main thing that made me feel better was the sleep I got!

Next, for your kids, before I had the baby I bought everything for Easter and had everything ready to go. I also, bought a lot of crafts and toys that would keep them entertained. Hobby Lobby was great for this, especially when their crafts and summer toys are on sale.

When you’re healing, it’s okay for your to let them have screen time. I may get crap for saying that, but we rented movies and watched Spider-Man for the first little while so that I could heal and hold the baby and so the boys could enjoy spending time with us.

Things I bought: crafts, colored paper, glue, pom poms, popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners, paints, crayons, coloring books, playdoh, kinetic sand, sand and playdoh tools, outdoor toys, movies and the Marco Polo learning app for the iPad. All of these things were worth every penny, when they got sick of toys, they had crafts and when they got sick of that we had Spider-Man!

Last, just a heads up, everything hurts after you have a C-section. Laughing, bumpy car rides, sneezing, coughing, and etc. You name it’s painful. Make sure you take things slow so your body can heal and over time you will feel better. Keep in mind that they cut through all your abdominal muscles to get to that sweet baby, be patient with yourself and don’t be afraid to ask for help!
