Homemade Calzones
Sunday, we decided that we would try to conquer the Calzone. We had so much fun filling our own and partaking from the gooey goodness of our own calzone.
This is a great dinner idea for families with picky eaters because everyone can make their own and no one would be picking off what they don’t like! The best part is everyone is in the kitchen laughing and talking and making memories!
Homemade Calzones
Ingredients:
2 cups Semolina flour
3 cups all-purpose white flour
2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup yogurt
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup water
2 1/2 teaspoons yeast
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 cup ricotta cheese
1 1/2 cups Mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup onion
1/2 cup green pepper
1/2 cup pepperoni
1/2 cup Canadian bacon
1/2 Italian meatballs
Homemade Calzones
Directions:
- To Make Dough: In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Add the yogurt, orange juice, and salt; mix in 1 cup flour until smooth. Gradually stir in the rest of the flour, until dough is smooth and workable. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, or until it is elastic.
- Lay dough in a bowl containing 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil, then flip the dough, cover and let rise for 40 minutes, or until almost doubled.
- Filling: In a skillet, warm a teaspoon of oil and add the onion and green pepper, cook until the veggies are softened.
- Preheat the oven with a baking stone inside, to the hottest your oven will go.
- When the dough is ready, punch it down and separate it into equal parts. Roll parts out into thin circles on a lightly floured surface. Spread ricotta cheese on the dough and fill with the ingredients that you like. Sprinkle with the Mozzarella cheese and fold over, securing edges by folding in and pressing with a fork. Brush the top with oil and sprinkle with Mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
- Place on a piece of parchment paper and then put it on the baking stone. Bake for 5 to 7 minutes until golden brown.
- Serve with your favorite marinara sauce!
These are simply mouth-watering!!
i'd loooooove to eat one (although without the bacon and the meat as we don't eat it together with dairy)
