Indoor Dino Dig

Indoor Dino Dig is a great way to play with your kids on a rainy or snowy day! Using tools that will improve their fine motor skills all at once.

 

 

 

 

We have been trying to work on Grey’s fine motor skills so that we can get him to write and color while holding the crayons correctly. My cute sitter suggested we get something that will work with pinching his thumb and index finger together at the same time. The tools in the picture below are what we decided to go with. 

 

 

 

 

We have some old rice that we decided we needed to cycle out of our food storage and we are going to use this as play rice from now on. Our first experiment was the Dino Dig.

I got a bunch of mini dinosaurs that we had lying around the house and then I pushed them down into the rice. Then using the tools Grey had to dig them out.

 

 

Once he had excavated all 12 of the dinosaurs from the rice he put them in the water to clean them. Using the dropper and the scooper he cleaned the dinosaurs from the powder on the rice. 

 

 

This activity was a real winner! He did this over and over for 2 hours on Friday and then 2 more hours on Saturday and begged to do it again on Sunday. All the while improving his fine motor skills. Give this a go.

Kid Activities

 

 

You know an activity is a keeper when your 15-year old still wants to do it! When Lisa was about 4 years old we started freezing animals in the water. She loved melting the ice to recover the animals. Seriously, I would prepare this for her at least 3 times a week and it would entertain her for almost an hour! I thought it was time to share this with my grandkids and you! You will thank me later! lol

 

 

 

It only takes minutes to do, which we all know is a bonus when you are working with young kids.
