Meal Prepping Ideas and Tips
Between having four kids, working full time, and extracurriculars for kids, I feel like we’ve been eating out a lot more than I would like. We’ve been trying to be healthy, but it’s hard when your kids are picky but also there is not enough time in the day to do all the things.
I decided that I’m going to take the time to prep a few hours on Saturdays for the week. I planned out five meals and it took me about 2 hours to have everything ready for the week.
First- Plan out Meals – Typically plan things with similar ingredients so that there is less work in making the food. For instance, I have two meals this week that use ground beef and two that use pork. With that this will help you create a grocery list for the week.
Second – Order your groceries – I order mine on Walmart and either do a pick up or delivery. This way you know you’re not going to forget anything and then you can also search your pantry and make sure you’re not buying things you already have. Then when you get it you have everything out and ready to go to prep your meals. Also, you spend less money I find that it has been really beneficial to my bank account.
Third – Cut all the Veggies and separate the Meat at Once – This is why you recipes with similar things that way it’s quick and easy to cut all the veggies up. Then all I use a chopper to maker it faster. I bought my meat in bulk and then sectioned it out per recipe and started putting it in different bags.
Fourth – Do Meals you know your family will want to eat – Often times I will plan meals I know my won’t eat. I don’t do this intentionally, but they only like chicken nuggets. Picking meals that you will eat and not be tempted to go out and eat instead. I like meals that I throw in the crockpot in the morning then when I get home and it’s ready to go.
Fifth – Turn Leftovers into freezer meals – We often have tacos because Matt and I love them. Ellie and Grey will typically eat it. Leftover meat will make great rice bowls, or burritos. I recommend doing this so that there is less waste.
