Star Wars Death Star Cake
Star Wars Death Star Cake
My oldest had his 9th birthday a couple of weeks ago. He is a Star Wars MANIAC! Which is funny, because neither of his parents knew anything about Star Wars until he introduced it to us last year.
For his birthday he really wanted a death star cake. I did my best and then my 5-year-old stuck her finger in it to taste test it before I got a picture, but that’s okay, it adds character. The Death Star is made of Rice Krispies Treats covered in fondant.
I just poured the treats into two cereal bowls and then put them together once they were not so sticky. The stars are made of gold drages pressed into the fondant. I used spray-on food coloring for the black bottom layer, and silver spray-on food coloring for the death star.
It’s so much easier than kneading it into the fondant, and most Wal Mart stores carry it in the cake decorating aisle. We printed the Star Wars label off on card stock, cut it out, placed it on top of fondant, and then used an Exacto knife to trace it.
The characters are real Lego figures because that’s what the birthday boy wanted. Overall, it was actually a pretty easy cake to make. Here’s my favorite recipe for fondant if you want to give it a try!
Those faces say it all! Congratulations on such an artistic production. Pity it had to get eaten at all, really!
Thanks Isobel!
Wow, I am so impressed! My son is also having a Star Wars party this year. I'm pretty good at fondant, but that Death Star you made looks pretty amazing. Definitely not in my skill set. Great job!
Thanks Lela! I believe in you! I just covered it twice in fondant. Then used a toothpick to create the lines and dots. You could totally do it!
Well now that is awesome!!
Thanks!
This cake is AMAZING! Pinned!
Thanks Laura!
That's fab! I love how you say "pretty easy" There is a lot of detail here, looks great.
Easy and time consuming are two different things. I didn't swear while I was making this cake, so that's how I gauge it! haha:) Thanks Julia!
Awesome cake!! I bet he loved it. My son just had his 9th birthday this past week too. He's into Minecraft. Your blog is adorable by the way. 😉

That is an amazing cake! I love the look on his face too. My boys would love me to learn how to make fancy cakes haha!
It's probably the best gift I give them. Sometimes I'm tempted to tone it down and then I remind myself they're only small for a little while, and the look on their faces makes it totally worth it. Thanks Joann!
